If I pay off a debt with a collection company, will my credit score increase? Even by a few points?

It depends on what the dollar amount of the collection is. Open collections are included in your total debt, so if it's a large amount it could potentially affect your score a little.
Don't forget, score AND contents of the report are both important. If a creditor (or property manager if you're trying to rent) is looking at your report they are going to be a lot more concerned with an open collection. Some won't deal with you at all when they see that.
