Collection agency refuses to send debt paid/remove letter to 3 bureaus
The charge was sent to my U.S. address while I was living overseas and was not forwarded. When I returned I paid the fee which was now in the hands of a collection agency. A 0 balance is on their books but it is still affecting my credit score. I've requested that a letter be sent to the 3 bureaus stating that the collection will be removed and will be deleted from the bureaus. The collection agency says that they cannot send the letter because of an agreement with the company they were collecting for. I called the company and they said that it is not their decision. Suggestions?

If you paid the bill

Its probably to late,  There is mo incentive for the collection agency to do anything. Simply requesting a letter from them to be sent is not going to cut it. Reporting the change would cost them money. You've paid the bill, they have the money and no more coming in so they could care less.

Let this be a lesson, Collection agencies will say anything on the phone and have no legal obligations unless you get an agreement in writing in advance. Never deal with collection agencies on the phone, ONLY IN WRITTING. Never pay them unless you have an agreement as to how the issue will be dealt with in advance and NEVER ever send them money untill they have aggreed to your terms for removing the negitive remarks.

The negitive remarks will stay on your credit report for 7 years, Thats a long hard lesson to learn.  Paying the rest of your bills consistantly on time will be the biggest factor that can help you at this point.  Its all about the averages. The more payments you have made on time the less effect the derogitory remarks will have in the long run.

Good Luck
