Can you place a freeze on my own credit report, banning merchants doing inquiries w/o knowledge
I'm hearing that you can put a freeze on your credit report, which stops merchants doing inquiries on your report without your knowledge. Mainly they are soliciting business for themselves. I also understand that a lot of inquiries can also bring down your credit score...is this true?

Hi Corky173,

Merchants should not be conducting hard inquiries without your consent. They may be conducting "soft inquiries", which do not affect your score, to determine which financial products you might be eligible for. To learn more about freezing your credit and see if it is a good solution for you, please read this article: https://www.creditkarma.com/article/what-is-a-security-freeze
