This debt should not even be showing on your credit reports since the maximum Statute of Limitations for Collections (SOL) in any state is 10 years, and most are less. Do a search for Statute of Limitations for Collection of debt and find out what it is in your state, then you can dispute it with the credit bureau reporting it as being 'out of statute" since the SOL had expired.
