can a collection be reported 4 years after the intial default date?
A collection was just opened for a medical bill that states it was first defaulted 7/12 but did not report to the credit bureau until 2/16. Never received any information that it was being sent to collections. I don't even know what it is for.

Yes, a collection can pop up on your credit reports and remain for seven years from the time the original account became delinquent. Do some reading on "Pay for Delete Agreements" and try to get this collection removed from your reports. Remember, simply paying a collection does not get it removed.

If it is something you have no idea about, it could be an error that should be disputed.
