YOU can fix your own credit!!!!

Despite their claims to do good, most "credit repair" compoanies have questionalble ethics and may do you more harm than good.  I've heard from reliable sources that some even advise you to get a different social security number and do other things which can  actually be classified fraud. They cannot remove any negative remarks from your credit reports, only the passage of time and a good payment record from this point on can do so.  Federal law (The Fair Credit Reporting Act) requires that all credit accounts remain on your credit report for at least 7 years (10 years in case of bankruptcy).  Besides, do you really want to reveal personal information to someone you don't really know?  I don't go handing out my SSAN to anyone who asks for it.

Now, it's up to you and you can do it, if you truly want to repair your credit.  First thing is to check all 3 credit reports for accuracy.  It's not unusual for mistakes to be made on the credit reports but it is up to each of us to make sure the reports are right.  If there are errors on the reports, then file disputes.

This site has many resources and articles that can help in the credit repair process.  You just have to read them and pay attention to what needs to be done.

There is NO quick fix.  It took time to get your credit into a shamblews and it will take time to get things straightened out.  I know.  I've had the financial crisis of a divorce and have done a bankruptcy plus trying to make a go of it on a disability pension, but I did it!!

One thing you absolutely MUST do is be regular with your debt repayments.  Late payments hurt your credit.  Utilize the financial tools you'll find in the left column.  They're here to help you, and they don't cost a cent.
