How Often Should My Score Change?

One question: How long ago was the judgement from the time you applied for the CO and AE credit cards? I have a discharged BK and not sure when I should start applying for the "normal" credit cards as I have a secured card that I've worked with for over 8 months now but my BK was only discharged 3 months ago.. Thanks for the input.

THE ONLY LENDER THAT GAVE ME A CHANCE

I first applied for the rewards credit card with capital one in Sept. 2013. I honestly don't recall what my score was then but going thru a home modification and my report showing me delinquent (due to the hold on the mortgage due to the process of mod) no one wanted to grant me credit.. (Even if it was secured)... for whatever reason and without applying for a secured card Capital One approved me with a $300 credit limit and then raised my limit to $500 after my 5th month of prompt payments. I can't say enough good good things about this company - even after previously filing for BK (after a divorce) and submitting one card from them in the plan :/

I recommend this card to anyone trying to rebuild their credit, but as many other people say - truly stick to paying it off and keeping the balances low. Having a higher limit makes it a bigger temptation to run the balance and a harder time to pay it off at the end of the month.

Finally, just want to add that after that 1st  card I applied for the 2nd card (Quicksilver) with Captial one in Jan 2014 and was granted that one as well with a $500 CL. I was informed that after my prompt 5th month payment I would be jumped up to $750 so I'm completely thrilled...

I have one more question. I too have secured cards, and my concern is.. what happens after you've accomplished getting unsecured credit cards with better interest rate? Do you just let the money sit in those "secured" credit cards or how do we reclaim the money? do I close down the secured cards? Can anyone tell me what's the best approach?

Thanks :)

I actually like the fact that we now have Equifax scores on CK. I see alot of people complaining that their scores went down and mine only went up for a few points. I am not sure why that is but I do know that post BK I've been working on rebuilding my credit with two secured cards and this is something I think is helping me out. My ultimate goal is to refinance my super high APR auto loan.. but I can't seem to have any luck with that and after all the bad reviews on Blue Harbor I'm afraid to honestly call them :/

Ymelda,

Thanks for your post it certainly gives me hope.. I do have one question regarding your score. When you say your score was 545 what score was this? the one given by Credit Karma? or some other monitoring bureau?? Just want to know since most places vary in scores. Again thanks for the help and the uplifting comments.

Everyone states Capital One is the best company to go with but unfortunately for me, I don't qualify because when I filed a BK they were included in the list of discharged accounts :(  so needless to say I can't go that route.. Can anyone recommend 2nd best on the list of secured card financial institutions?

Hello,

May I ask what your score was when you applied for Victoria Secret?? I want to try but I'm at 584 and not sure if I'll be approved since Wells Fargo didn't approve me for their secured card although I have re-established credit (2 credit cards, 2 loans and an auto loan).. so I just wanted to see if I could possibly go for VS.

Thanks :)

Bankruptcy & High Student Loans on Credi
Helpful to 1 out of 2 people

I had a BK in 2005 due to a divorce and then a Chapter 13 BK in 2011 when I was furloughed at work due to the economic downturn. The Ch.13 Bk was dismissed due to my income changing and no longer qualified for the payment program and now there are all those accounts on bad shape which I can't pay off all at once.  I also have $80k in student loans that I'm on a Income Contigent Plan - meaning I pay back depending on my salary and since I don't make much the balance doesn't lower at all. My questions are as follows.

Besides the obvious BK's is the high student loans that are in deferment damaging my credit to ration amount and therefore hurting my score? Is there anything to do for this?

I have opened 2 credit accounts (a secured visa and a small credit card from capital one).. I am doing the charging and paying off at the end of the monthy but not sure if the score is going to change with all the other bad stuff on my credit report.

I'm reading to request a pay for deletion on collections.. How do I request that and what if they reject that?

I've never had problems

I have been in the process of rebuilding my credit and CCCU was the only institution that was willing to give me the time of day - no only with guiding me on how to get approved for a refinance of my super high APR auto loan but providing me advice on what steps to take for bettering my credit.  After eight months of paying a 19% APR credit loan CCCU was the only institution that refinanced me for a 4+%APR.. I can't thank then enough.. I also got a credit card offered at the same time.. (Unsecured).. They were my first open door when everyone else didn't bother in helping. I can only say good things about them..

Also, I've visited the Murrietta branches.. and there is always this amazing customer service lady -- I think her name is Veronica -- amazing woman.. always helpful and with a huge smile.. I am not going to say they're all the same.. I also did encounter 1 customer service individual that didn't seem very happy to be working but who doesn't always have a bad day? I've always been able to get my stuff done.
