About Me: I am on the same road to rebuilding my credit that many people on this site are. I am a Sys Admin by trade and not a financial professional so please take any advice I have offered with a grain of salt as it is only my opinion and personal experience while taking a journey back to credit worthiness.

Excellent Experiences with this Card
Helpful to 20 out of 22 people

This was one of the first secured cards I received when I started rebuilding my credit. A $99 deposit provided a $300 credit line and customer service is excellent. You can pick your own due date to make it easier to insure the balance is paid off each month and options such as Interactive Chat from the website also make it easier to communicate with the Capital One team. I was so impressed with this card that my first unsecured card was Capital One as well.

This card can grow with you as they will increase you limit with a positive payment history.

Peerform Personal Loans

Approved but not funded
Helpful to 3 out of 3 people

The application process was quite simple. The only thing one has to do that cannot be done by a simple webform is verify a small deposit to your bank account. I have been approved on a couple of different occassions after the quick vetting process but neither loan was funded by the crowdsourcing investors. The first loan was about 10% funded and the second did not receive any funding at all. Both times, I had a "B" rating and an interest rate of around 15%. I have taken out a similarly loan on Lending Club and it was fully funded the same day as the loan was requested.

Customer service is non-existent. I inquired about suggestions for descriptions to offer the highest chance of a loan getting funded but my chat requests were met with a macro stating, "I apologize, I do not have that information".

UPDATED Review: A few months in

I have been a fan of this card since I received it. It was my first unsecured Credit Card and I still use it heavily because I there is no interest for the first  year. I also love Capital One's website; It is easy to navigate, provides single point access to all of my Cap1 cards and I have never called Capital One because of the Live Chat option.

I recently received a notification from them that my Credit Limit would be automatically increased from $500 to $750 just for making the first 4 payments on time. No action required on my part save making the payments.

My first Unsecured card
Helpful to 5 out of 6 people

I applied for this card once my TU score surpassed 600 and received a $500 balance. Capital One has an excellent customer service organization and the website is not only functional (which is the most you can say for many companies) and has options that make communication easy (interactive chat) and options such as choosing your own due date. With the 0% intriductory interest until September of next year, I almost stopped using my secured cards I previously owned at all.

Try secured cards.

How do I get rid of an account from my report that has been confirmed closed?

If the account was a legitimate account, it will stay on your report for 7 years. If the account was not legitimate, you will need to refute it with the credit bureau, not the company.

How do you cancel a credit card with 20+ years history without damaging your credit FICO score?

Unfortunately, cancelling a card you have had for 20 years will have a significant impact on your average age of open credit lines. How much so depends on your situation. Can you provide your current Avg Age of Open Credit Lines from CK?

Because unlike many secured cards, Capital One will grow with you and increase your limit relatively easy. The website is the same one that all Cap One customers use and has many functional advantages over many of the purely secured cards.

Does a PayPal card show up as a credit card on credit report?

"PayPal Credit", the new name for PayPal's "Bill me Later", does not report to the credit bureaus. Applying will show up as a hard inquiry. There have been many inquiries on CK about this service and most of the time the answer is "This will not help you rebuild your credit" (because they do not report) but in your situation, it sounds like exactly what you need.

How long after you pay an account off does it change on credit karma

"CLOSED" and "PAID IN FULL" mean essentially the same thing for your credit. The difference is that "CLOSED" is usually used for revolving accounts, like credit cards and "PAID IN FULL" is usually reserved for installment loans (like your car loan). Occasionally the terms are interchanged but there is no discernible difference for your score.

If you had a negative payment history on the loan (missed/late payments), it will remain on your report for 7 years. If there is no negative (derogatory) remarks, it will remain for 10 years.
