I already have 3 Capital One cards; Platinum (hate), Quicksilver (first card years ago to rebuild credit.. meh) and Venture (love!).  My son is graduating high school in May of 2019 and we are going on a family trip to Walt Disney World.. NOT a cheap adventure.  When I saw that the Savor card offered a $500 bonus after spending $3k in 90 days AND 4% cash back on dining & entertainment, I knew that was the card I wanted.  After doing a LOT of research, I figured I had a 50/50 shot at approval.  I didn't have an offer or invitation.  All my other Cap1 cards have a zero balance and I used them all at different times throughout the time I had them.  Long story short, recent usage (approx $1k a month across all three current Cap1 cards), no balance and long time cardholder.

I applied online and was not instantly approved.  I got the "we will need more information and you'll receive something from us in the mail in 7-10 business days."  I decided to call the application status line approx. 3 days later. The recording said my application was in process and to expect something in the mail...blah..blah.  I held on for a representative who said the same thing.. "in process" but then sent me to their fraud check line.  This person asked me several questions to verify my identity and said thank you, and.. you guessed it... I will receive something in the mail in 5-10 business days.

Well, I'm literally waiting to pay for this trip based on getting approved or not on this card.. so I called again.  5 days (not business days) after my last call.  Recording STILL said it was being reviewed.  I held for a representative to find out that I was APPROVED the same day I called to give them additional information.  Since I recently paid off all my balances on all my cards, my credit score went from the 630's to high 600's during the time my credit was checked for this card.

Take aways.. this is the SECOND card.. ironically BOTH from Capital One where I wasn't approved instantly online, but later approved for pretty decent credit lines ($10k & $8k).  Don't get discouraged if you see that message when applying online.  You DO NOT need a score in the 700's to even consider this card.. AND... CK recommendations are not always correct.  Good luck!  I love Capital One so I'm thrilled!

I have rebuilt my credit after filing for BK over 5 years ago. Credit scores near 700 (680, 691, 692) and not approved fed. Only reason given was BK. Don't apply for this card, regardless of score, if you have a BK

Pre-screened offer Excellent Process

I received an offer in the mail, with a pre-screened invitation number.  I have tried to get a Discover card several times over the last 10 years or so with no luck.  My credit score generally lingered around the 630 mark until I had funds to pay off 90% of my debt and my score went up substantially.  I paid my debt in mid-August, it is late Sept as I write this.  I went online, input my invitation number and 3 remaining accounts for balance transfer.  They offered 14 mos at 0 interest for balance transfers as well as APR of 17%.  I like the fact that their customer service is 100% US based as well as the 5% rewards match (for specific categories) as well as 100% rewards match for the 1st year so I applied.  I was approved instantly for $15k.  I'm thrilled that I will only have 1 card now and interest free until 2020!

Excellent!

I first want to thank others for posting their comments, because without reading them here, my outcome would've been completely different!  I applied for this card even though CK said I had a low chance of being approved. After applying on line, I got the "auto message" thanks but we have to review, da-da-da-da.  Well, I called the 800 number (transferred a few times) and finally got a person... in the US!!  Told her I applied and wanted to see the status, anticipating it was declined.  She told me that it was in "Security review" and if she could ask me some questions.  After answering the questions, she eagerly told me I was approved for $500 CL.  I told her thank you, but my intention was to use the balance transfer benefit and so could I be considered for an increased credit line.  I was transferred to another person who asked me to identify myself (again) which was kind of annoying, but I did it.  After that, he asked me specific questions about my credit history and asked how much of an increase I was looking for; I told him $5,000 for balance transfers.  He said that, for a non-automated increase, he would need to look at a hard-copy of my credit report and would I give him authorization to do that, which I did.  After a few more questions about my credit report, I was approved for $6,000!!! I was completely surprised and extremely happy!  Moral of the story, don't let an automated response be the end of your pursuit!  Because of the comments here, I pressed AND completely changed my credit score AND saved me a LOT of $$!
