My Limit Keeps Going Up!
Helpful to 85 out of 86 people

I've had this card for a little more than a year and they've been steadily increaing my limit without me having to ask. I'm not even sure if there's a place on their website to make a request for a higher limit but I started out at $600 and then it was $1000. Then one day out of the blue they thanked me for my business and bumped it up to $1500. Now I'm at a $2300 credit limit which is great because it gives me that extra room to maintain a low utilization rate. I use it primarily for a few groceries and most of my consumables. But what I really like about it is the ease of use when it comes to making payments. Other store card sites have me searching and digging around to find the area to make a payment but Target clearly says "Pay Bill Here".

They have a $36/year annual fee which is charged to your card in full for the first year and then it's billed incrementally the following years. Compared to other cards that want $75 for the first year and then $99 each additional year, I find their fees to be quite fair. I started with a $700 limit and as promised, I paid on time for 7 months and was automatically bumped $1400. The interest rate is a bit high so I don't use it very often but the fact that I'm being charged $3/mo. plus the $2 minimum interest rate, it's well worth it for me to have an open account showing steady activity.

They closed my account!

I am very disgusted with Amazon right now. I went to place an order and my card was declined. I figured that I might had entered the number incorrectly so after doing it a couple of times it still didn't go through. I logged into my account to see what was going on and to my surprise MY ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED! :( I've had the card for almost a year with no issues, no problems, no late payments, or anything else. When I called them to find out what happened, they informed me that after reviewing my credit report, they determined that it was in their best interest to close the account. Now that I've been getting my old debts resolved I guess I'm starting to appear on everyone's "radar" and I'm getting dinged on a regular basis. No problem. I understand that. But I am very annoyed because I haven't had any slip-ups in the last 5 years. From the time I was issued the card to the present, I always paid my bill early and didn't carry a balance.  I don't see how that was a risk for them.

Do the math on the 5% Rewards

I had a 630TU that suddenly dropped down to 559 even though I pay my bills on time consistently. So today I'm sitting in front of my computer staring at the 559 on the screen when the offer for the BuyPower Card comes in the mail. I figure that a hard pull can't hurt me any worse than the 71-point-hit did but I was pleasantly surprised to get approved. I already have CAP1 store cards and visa & MC cards from cap 1 so I like dealing with a company that I'm familiar with.

They gave me a chance! THANK YOU!

My credit limit is low in comparison to other cards that I've obtained since opening this account. But in spite of that, getting $300 unsecured right off the bat opened up many more opportunities to rebuild. It was quite a thrill to get back into the game again after several years of pre-paid and debit cards with monthly fees. The interest is high but... so what? As far as I'm concerned, they gave me $300 sight unseen.

LOL @ "No whining about being a few days late". I am fortunate that I have a decent bank that I deal with because this was the one card that I almost let get away from me. I just happened to log into my account only to realize that TODAY was the DUE DATE and it was 11:45 PM! I scrambled to make my online payment and didn't hear anything for a couple of days. Then when I got the email confirming that the payment posted, I was so happy that I didn't get dinged. That was indeed a close call.

I graduated to a $1000 CL!
Helpful to 6 out of 8 people

I started out with a secured card. I gave them a $200 deposit and got my card about a week later. I kept using it and paying it off regularly. 9 months later I went online to check my balance and I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw that my credit limit was unexpectedly raised to $1000! I was expecting it to be raised to around $300-$500 after a full year of having it but nevertheless, they saw fit to raise my limit. I don't know if/when I'm getting my deposit back but I'm so happy to have $1000 in unsecured credit that I ALMOST would be OK with not getting it back.

What are my odds on an Amazon store card with mid-600's score and 2+-year-old BK?

I think your chances are good. I just got my Amazon card with a $1000 limit. I was denied 6 months ago so I started using my secured Discover card to buy stuff off of their site. I don't know if it just takes a I few months of credit utiliztion before Synchrony Bank trusts you but lately I've been getting SYNCB cards left and right.

One thing that I found out is that Discover and Amazon have a relationship. When I go to the checkout screen, they have my cashback bonus on record and give me the opportuntiy to spend it. Maybe having a the secured Discover card helped me get the Amazon card but the last time I was ordering, I got the popup credit application at the checkout.

What can I do to improve credit score if I have late payments?

Just keep paying on time from this point forward. Many creditors are looking at your history and habits over the last 1-2 years so as long as you remain consistent for the next year, your rating will improve.

Don't look at it as "taking a hit". The removed collection is one less thing counting against you when a creditor looks at your entire report. Score isn't everything but your history is.
