Tim is a personal finance writer and credit card expert at Credit Karma.
Growing up, Tim was apprehensive about credit cards because his parents struggled to get out of debt. Not wanting to fall into the same trap, Tim didn’t open his first card until he was 25 years old. These days, Tim has so many cards they don’t all fit inside his wallet, but he uses them responsibly by only spending what he can afford to pay off in full each month. Tim earns credit card rewards for every purchase and uses those points and miles to travel around the world for free. While travel hacking is one of Tim’s hobbies, his greatest accomplishment is paying off more than $60,000 in student loans in his 20s. By sharing a one-bedroom apartment with up to three roommates, not eating out much and riding a bike to save money on gas, Tim scraped together enough cash to double his student loan payments. Tim is a longtime journalist. He prides himself on being a good storyteller who can explain complex information in an easily digestible way. At Credit Karma, Tim combines his passion for journalism and personal finance. Prior to Credit Karma, Tim wrote about financial regulations for The Hill. He also covered business for The Washington Times and The Detroit News. Tim has been featured on C-Span, MarketWatch, Business Insider, TheStreet, CBS and more.
