Will the removal of my name from my newly ex-wife's maxed out $8K Visa card raise my credit score??

It depends on your score and credit limits. If you have a terrible score and no other credit lines it might hurt. If you have good credit and serveral open credit cards in good standing then it should help.

If you alredy have a high utilization and you have cards maxed out of your own, then closing this would decrease your available credit, thus driving your utilization even higher . Your score will definately take a hit. On the other hand, if your utilization is very low , then you have nothing to worry about. Close it . Keep in mind that this may lower your AAOA if it is one your oldest accounts. This in it self could lower your score.

I see. But if the card is CURRENTLY maxed out, and I get my name off of it, how would that change my utilization?
