Last fall my Bank of America CC stopped paying rewards so I got a Capital One card. Now my bank of America is paying decent rewards again. Will it help my "Average Age of Open credit lines"? My oldest is 11y and 5m, or am I misunderstading how it is calculated?

Nope closing it will not help. Whether open or closed it will continue to affect your average age. Unless you are getting charged outrageous fees I would just keep it open and maybe use it for gas once a month so they do not close it for you.
