I have a state tax lien for 170.22 on my credit report. The state comptrollers office turned it over to the OAG and thye filed the lien.
I attempted to make the payment but sent it to the wrong address so when I called to confirm the correct address I was told that my lein is OVER 2,000 although there is a judgement for 170 and that it will not be released from my credit report until I pay the FULL AMOUNT.
Something is not right here especially when I was following up on this just a month ago with the state comptroller and the OAG and was told the amount was 170.
Anyone have any ideas how I should proceed? I have the 170 and really need this off my report immediately.

The good thing about liens is that once they are gone they come off your report. Seems like you just need to find out how they arrived at the new amount: clerical error or you owe more than you thought.

What you need to do is go down to the tax office in your area with your check book and make a deal with them. They will accept your money and tell them you need a letter of satisfaction. Take a copy of the satisfaction letter and mail it to the 3 credit reporting companies, TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. They will mark it paid. This should raise your credit scores the next reporting period.

Unfortunately I live in California and the tax lien is in Texas. Trying to see if I can get someone to go for me and also waiting for my payment to be returned by the wrong recipient.
