Paying off a debt doesn't help a credit score in most cases. It measures your history of maintaining your credit, and includes factors that benefit you for active accounts (e.g. actively paying on).
I do not know what the threshold for the Orchard Bank card that is offered through this site, but they are definitely one of the better unsecured ones for people rebuilding their credit.
But, it is likely that you will need to get a secured card to start building your credit, which means opening a savings account with that lender as collateral. I haven't looked too closely at who is better than the other when it comes to the secured card market.
