I am making a final payment on a car loan. It is actually late fees. I want the lender to remove my late payments on my report. Can I send them a check for the final payoff amount and tell them by cashing the check they are agreeing to remove the late payments on my report or should I call and talk to them in person. I have already disputed the late charges with all three credit bureaus hoping that the lender would not respond but what should my next course of action be?

The credit bureaus only report what is given to them. This means you need to go to the horses mouth to get the lates removed. The credit bureau only reports data, they don't make it up or alter it.

Call the lender and talk to them directly. If they agree to reverse the negative reporting make sure you get it IN WRITING!!! Do not send the payment without getting it in writing first or you will have no leverage and may be stuck with the negative reporting.
