Hello all. I'm pretty sure this is my first time commenting or leaving a question so I'm hoping that I can get as much feedback as possible. About 2.5-3 years ago, I attempted to get financing for a preowned vehicle given that the one I was driving at the time was giving me a huge headache. To my surprise, I was denied for every loan I applied for, and finally decided to get a car from a "tote the note" dealership. To make matters worse, I was even denied for a cell phone account. :-( I decided to contact one of the credit agencies and basically learned that I had been a victim of identity theft. Immediately, I expected my estranged husband was the culprit, and upon receiving my free credit reports (which foolishly, I failed to do in the past), I discovered that the identity thief had financed a ford explorer, created medical bills, opened a phone account and obtained a credit card in my name. Needless to say, I was hysterical, and obviously my once pretty decent credit was demolished. I was able to dispute the claims and most of them were removed from my report except the vehicle which I have been having the hardest time receiving a police report for. To make a long story short...I am at my wit's end. I can't get approved for anything, and b/c I am now a single mother and college student w/a low income, the things that I am able to be approved for are a bit too expensive. About a year ago, I opened a furniture account, and I have been paying on it faithfully as I do all of my living expenses, but my score has only improved by 40 pts or so. Is there any advice that any of you can offer? I am desperate to fix the damage caused by the heartless, selfish person who felt it was alright to destroy the decent credit of hard-working single mother and student. Please help me!!!! What should I do?
