I was approved for a gasoline card that was going to provide me savings of cents on the dollar, but after looking at the figures, it wasn't going to save me money, and probably cost me in interest. I haven't activated the card yet. If I don't activate it, does it just close, or do I need to contact the provider (Shell Oil MasterCard).

If you want to cancel, look for the telephone number on the back of the card and call them. Personnally, I just shred the card. Canceling may or may not hurt your credit score, you already took a hit with the credit inquiry when you applied.
