you can be added as an authorized user but I could swear a couple years ago give or take they stopped counting tradelines in which the consumer was an authorized user. Companies were starting to 'sell' tradelines of people with great great cards i.e. old and no balance to people with bad credit.

It totally depends on the creditor and if they report it, I know B of A reports authorized users, I am speaking from experience.
