It shouldn't affect your credit at all as an authorized user, authorized users have no financial ties to the account. If your just an authorized user, and you know the cards, call into the certain cards customer service and request to be removed, authorized users can remove themselves by calling in. However, if it really is affecting your credit score, than you aren't just an authorized user your a co-primary or joint cardholder. In which case you are financially responsible even if he stops paying them. Hope this helps.

You need to contact these creditors and make sure you aren't liable. My understanding is that since you're only an authorized user they can't come after you to pay the bill (I'm actually in a similar situation, my ex has quit paying also but I haven't been on that account since we separated 3 years ago, and that's what I keep telling the collection agency when they call). It might be a good idea to get copies of your credit reports and be sure you haven't been put on there as a joint card-holder. It's possible that your ex's accounts aren't the reason for your low score, there could be mistakes or you could be dealing with an identity theft problem, but you need to be sure. And yes, even if you shred everything you can still have a problem with identity theft - it's happened to me twice, but I have safeguards in place so the issuers contact me if anything suspicious shows up on the account (like the tickets to Singapore 2 years ago).
