How long does a late payment stay on your credit record?
My ontime payment percentage is less than 100% but I have made no late payments in over two years. How long with a few late payments from several years ago stay on my credit record?

It depends. But, you can expect a black mark against you to stay on your report for up to 7 years. Payments are typically on the report for 48 months. As long as the account is in good-standing otherwise, your late payment will drop at the 48 month mark.

Do not do business with companies that will report one late payment on you. Call them & try to get it removed. If they won't work with you, transfer the amount to another company! It would be smart to have this arranged in advance & ask for a manager & state that you would like to continue to do biz w/them only if they will remove the late pay......
