first thing to realize is that there are 3 major credit reporting agencies, ( experian, Transunion, and equifax).
The quickest and easiest way to get a FREE credit report, is to be denied new credit, then use that denial to request your credit report, from the credit reporting agency that was using by the creditor to make a decision on your application.
It's simple.. apply for new credit, and get denied.
make 3 copies of the denial letter you got in reply.
write a simple letter to each one of the credit reporting bureaus, stating that you were denied credit, and are aware that, under federal fair credit reporting guidelines, you are entitled to a free copy of your report, and give your full name as it should appear in the credit files, along with your current and proper address, and your birthdate and SSN.
mail each letter and a copy of the denial letter you got, to each credit bureau, and in 2-4 weeks you should have copies of your basic credit report.
I said basic because these reports will not include your scores, just a listing of your credit file. You can use that to find out who all is on your credit report, then use established steps to dispute or update them.
Once that's done, come back here to get a updated score, and you'll know exactly where you stand.
