I have been paying everything ontime and it's at 95.63%. I was late in the past on one account for several months. I'm wondering if I open more credit cards and pay them ontime will it help increase the percentage of ontime payments?

Ya that would help since you will be making more payments, just don't get carried away and open too many accounts within the same time period as that will have a strong negative effect on your credit. Other then that keep making those payments.

Or just keep paying the ones you have on time and it will take care of itself.
