I have been making monthly payments to a debt collector but they don't report it to the credit agencies. My report says I have only made one payment but I have made 4. What should I do?

When an account gets into collections, payments are not recorded on the credit report, only balance and current state. Payment information is for open accounts, not closed accounts, including collections. A collections agent is not obligated to report payments.

I think one sure-fire way to get those reported accurately is to submit a Balance Dispute with each credit bureau for that account. They must provide proof to the bureaus of the updates in order to satisfy the dispute, therefore, will auto-MAGICALLY update the report. If they do not reply to the bureau with the correct information, the bureau will remove the account, so it's a Win-Win situation.

If they are not required to report payments then why would I even pay them? they must have to say in some way that the balance is no longer what it was...right?
