Why does my vantagescore take 10 point hit for showing a $171 balance on a discovercard with a $30k limit ?
Transrisk score didnt & doesnt change. Your page indicates some revolving debt is better than none but vantagescore CLEARLY penalizes me for even a miniscule amount. $171 on a $30k card and of $85k total revolving accounts.
I can & will pay it off every month prior to the statement date but I thought not doing so would help my score, not hurt it.

Trying to decide if I should apply. Already have a chase mastercard, Have a 791 CK score so I dont need the card, but want the $200.
Anyone get denied based on already having a chase card ?

I suspect you may have a thin file.

My transrisk score is 681, down from 769 after the IRS filed a $631,000 tax lien against me.
My Vantage score is 862.
My "situation" with the IRS has been resolved and they owe me a good chunk of money but the damage to my credit score will apparently keep on harming me.
I guess it will soon say "satisfied" or something like that but it doesnt appear that it will go away.
My CPA says we could probably fight them and eventually get it removed altogether but it would be expensive & time consuming and since I do not borrow, it really wont make much of a financial difference to me.
My ego is a bit bruised because the credit score I spent nearly 30 years building can be damged by the IRS without them even attempting to contact me first.
If anyone has any experience in my shoes, please comment & let me know what to expect when it says "satisfied" or whatever the term is to show its not owed.

After calling them every 6 months for 3+ years, they FINALLY gave me the best price.
$98.50 versus $135 every 6 months for liability.
The only difference is I no longer get roadside assistance.
Thats not worth $73 a year to me. But now that I dont have it, I will probably need it !
LOL

Yeah, It let me run some bids, as you say it looks like theatrics and the rates arent any better than whats generally "out there" elsewhere.

These guys are slimeballs. 2 years ago, before the meltdown, they refused to consider me despite having more on deposit with them than I wanted to borrow.
They may lend to you but you better be 100% conforming with a credit score of 750+ and a loan to value below 75%.
Penfed credit union could save some interest but they are tough too. It costs about $20 for anyone to join.

But really, you would think the store operators would rather you pay inside where theres a chance you may buy some of their overpriced stuff.
Id rather pay at the pump and always do but I dont see why.
Except that maybe Gas has always had a higher kickback % than other purchases and they dont want to reward us 5% on other stuff bought at places that sell gas.
Now, If I could just buy sams club giftcards at the pump !
LOL
Thats the hardest place for rewards. (Except gas)

Not willing to spend $25 now, to get $10 later.

Just ckicked on it to take the offer and the lower rate showed up.
Still not a bad liquid account but I was hoping CK customers would get a bonus rate.
Oh well.
Id most certainly stay below $100k on countrywide or indymac or any of the banks that are having well documented problems.
Even interest over $100k is not covered.

You mean another credit-card like card that I have to show everytime ?
And how much does that give me at Publix ? An additional 1% or what ?
Thanks much.

"paid at the pump". And 2% on supermarkets which includes walmarts. (Most cards dont include walmart with supermarkets)
Cashback every month as a credit on your statement.
You have to join the National Military Family Association (NMFA) for one year at a cost of $20.
But, they occasionally have great CD rates also. Thats when I became a member, I made more on the CDs compared to others than the $20.
Earn 2% cash back on supermarket purchases*
Earn 5.00% cash back from gas purchases paid at the pump
Earn 1.25% cash back from all purchases** you make with the card during each billing cycle
Up to $50,000 limit
No Annual Fee
Cash Rewards credited each month
No special restrictions to earn your cash rewards

Their homepage shows 3.8% for $10k and above.
So it appears we get a special rate.
Does anyone know for sure ?

I joined my joining some militarty organization for 1 year. I think it cost $20-25. At the time, they had the best CD rates and I was buying one so it made since.
They have a card with 5% back on all gas "paid at the pump". And 2% back on grocery stores which INCLUDES both walmarts.
My pefectcard gives me 3% in my top 3 categories and when I get to $200, they make it $250 which ups the reward to 3.75% and 1.5%.
However, the penfed card offers an immediate credit every month.
So I used penfed for all gas & at walmarts, Chase at supermarkets & drugstores. Discover only when they have a promotional deal like now, 5% on home stores & dept stores.
