It should usually only take one billing cycle. If it's been more than a month, I'd look into your credit report and make sure it's up to date.

Yes - your mortgage payments should help you build your score. If your payments aren't reporting on your credit, contact your mortgage provider and see what's up.

How long ago did you pay them off? Sometimes it can take a full billing cycle to be reflected in your credit report.

Cutting up your card does not close the account or take your name off of it. If it's a joint account with your dad, you should probably contact the issuer to see if you can be removed from the account.

You should try contacting AmeriNational and referencing your account number. Ask if they can start reporting your payments.

Got GEICO for my motorcycle. It's served me well and I've experienced good customer service.

I had my very first bank account with BB&T. It was fine for me while in high school and most of college.

Overall, I've had a fine experience wtih Bank of America. I've been banking with them since 2005 and have few complaints. I've actually found they have fairly good customer service. But then again, I've had little to complain about. Even when I was charged an unexpected fee, I was able to call--finally getting on the phone with a human--and get it reimbursed.

Is that your only credit card? If so, or if your other cards have high balances as well, you're already doing a great deal of damage to your credit score by having a high credit utilization rate. You're showing lenders that you lean on credit too much, instead of just using it occasionally, under 30%. At this point, using more credit isn't a good idea. However, having a higher credit limit could help you later, if you stop maxxing out your credit card.

pay all of your bills on time (NEVER late), never use more than 30% of your available credit, and don't apply for a bunch of new credit at once. Read this:http://blog.creditkarma.com/credit-karma/credit-101-anatomy-of-a-credit-score/ it'll tell you what factors go into figuring out your credit score.

Have you checked your credit report in those six months? Go to AnnualCreditReport.com and review your full credit report. It might reveal something else going on with your credit that caused the drop.

You'll need to get your credit report to find that out. Provided here is your credit score, for monitoring purposes, but your credit report will have the full information you need. Go to AnnualCreditReport.com to see if you qualify for a free report.
