AMEX is a very poor choice of credit card issuer. If you do a search on Google, you will see that many people with perfect credit and 100% on-time payments are subjected to an onerous "financial review" -- a process in which AMEX will cancel your credit cards without any notice (causing you the embarrassment of a declined transaction) and demand to see all sorts of personal financial information including an IRS authorization that gives them unrestricted access to your tax forms. Although AMEX may seem prestigious, in reality they treat you as if you should be grateful they saw fit to bestow a credit card upon you. If you have good credit, there are far better options out there. I have had much better experiences with Citi, FIA (BofA), and many credit unions.
