Unfortunately I live in California and the tax lien is in Texas. Trying to see if I can get someone to go for me and also waiting for my payment to be returned by the wrong recipient.

I came across this article from the NY Times http://bucks.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/05/17/how-to-dispute-credit-report-errors-2/ In the article it says that if one agency finds an error due to a dispute it issupposed to report to the other two. However, I don't believe it ever happens that way.

When I read this reply my first thought was that we don't NEED three bureaus they all exist because someone saw a way to make a buck. The advice wasn't bad but you have to know what applies to you and what doesn't. In general a credit card may raise your score but that's taking several other factorsinto consideration. If your credit was already so bad that you would not get approved for a credit card (which you should have known) then logic would tell you that you shouldn't apply for a card because you would be denied and doing so would lower your score due to the inquiry.

We were told at a homebuyer seminar that just adding someone as an AU can build their credit provided of course you continue to manage the account well so there may not be a need to turn it into a joint account.

Sell it and have the buyer assume the notes.

I had a car repoed they sold it at auction got back their money PLUS gave me a refund on the overage they got at auction and STILL but it on my report as a repo and refused to remove it. Luckily it is finally dropping off at the end of the year. I couldn't even get them to take it off early.
