I just pushed the CLI request button and got instantly offered $1800. This card has definitely been good for my credit! I also get coupons every couple of months from JCPenney for $10 off of a $10 or more purchase...usually I get as close to $10 as possible. If you're tempted to overspend at JCP, this card might be dangerous for you...but otherwise, I see it as a super history building tool! Truth be told, I do plan to cancel this card at some point (probably once my other limits grow to catch up with this card). But for now, no annual fee, good coupons, and an increasing limit are enough to keep this card in my collection.

I've had a good experience with this credit card. Its perks are not that great from my point of view, since the points system resets itself every month. As a college student, having this card really helped me start to build my credit. I use it for very small purchases at a time, and usually at CVS rather than JCPenney (yes, they accept this card at CVS and Rite-Aid). The interest rate is awful, so definitely don't get this card if you don't plan to pay it off each month. I started off with a $150 CL in May when I got this card, and now that I've had it for 4 months and paid on time, they raised my limit to $1100 last week. That, in addition to another card, raised my score to 720. For someone with credit reports that aren't even a year old yet, that's not too shabby

I agree, I got angry when I got denied for this card and went and applied for the Chase Freedom card and was instantly approved, $2000 CL. Crazy that I could qualify for a rewards card for people with good credit, but not a student card. I'm not sure what Discover's deal is.

So far, so good! I applied last night and got approved! I'm a college student with pretty limited credit history (oldest account is 9 months), so I wanted a card that would give me a higher CL and help boost my score. I had a CK score at the time of application of 683, which has dropped to 677 since applying. But I bet my CL of $2000 will make up the difference as far as my score is concerned. I have a lot of inquiries (10) on my credit, so I'm surprised that I got approved but definitely very excited. Interest rate isn't too great though--22.9% variable. No balance carrying for this guy! Can't beat that for the rewards though.

You must have something negative on one of your other reports. CK only pulls information from TransUnion, so if you have a bankruptcy/collection/etc. on record with another company that could very well explain why you have a low FICO score.

And...I got the bright idea to go for it again. Denied. I know I probably shouldn't have, but I figured since my accounts had aged a little I might have a better shot. Reason for the decline? Age of accounts and inquiries--the 2 things that most college students will have a problem with. I still don't understand quite who Discover intends to market this card to. My CK was 683 at the time of application.

Same thing, you have to pull your credit report in order to find out. CK only shows an estimated score--it will allow you to see the number of inquiries you have on file, but not from whom. A credit report from Experian, TransUnion, or Equifax will show you the information. Just know that not every inquiry will show up on every report becuase each creditor uses a different credit reporting agency to pull your information from.

I switched to SunTrust for their Delta Skymiles debit card, and have been very pleased with their services. They allow me to do a lot of things online, keeping me from making unnecessary trips to the bank. Anytime I contact customer service online they have been quick to return my e-mails, and all of the folks at my local branch are very personable. Quite a few of them know me by name, too! I have really enjoyed banking at SunTrust and often recommend it to other people. I have also really enjoyed that there are branches in so many cities in the Southeast. I can find a SunTrust just about anywhere when I'm traveling in Florida!

I had this problem too. Go for the CapitalOne Journey or Zync with American Express. I'm a college student with very little credit history and I was qualified for both of those cards. Don't try to apply for cards that require high credit scores--like the amazing rewards program cards you see. You can't get cards that get large cashback amounts without having proven yourself first. If all else fails, you can get a secured card--but I would use that as a last resort if possible since there are often a lot of fees associated with the secured credit cards. Of those 2 I would suggest CapitalOne's Journey because it gives a decent cashback amount (1.25% as long as you pay your bill on time) and doesn't have an annual fee. Just don't carry a balance because the interest rate is fairly high.

Check with your credit card company--sometimes you may be able to upgrade your card to another one without an annual fee. It all depends on the company, but it wouldn't hurt to ask!

I have had a great experience with AMEX and I love using my Zync card. I have a $500 limit on mine because of limited credit, but that is far more than what I need. I like having a charge card because I know there is no interest and I have to pay off what I spend each month. Like somoene said above, it is good if you want to establish a good relationship with American Express. I'm not so crazy about the annual fee, but it is very modest compared to other comparable cards (like the AMEX Green card at $90 annually). I'm a very satisfied customer. I will say this too--I'm not so crazy about the packs. None of those categories are ones that I spend enough money in to make it worth the additional annual fee, which is fine since packs are all optional. The flexibility's great!

This was my first credit card, and I got approved for it with no credit (that I know of). I had several hard pulls on my file from trying to get approved for cards that I was way underqualified for because I didn't understand I was considered to have poor credit as young adult. I'm 19, and got approved for a $500 limit and I'm due for a credit increase within the next 2 months to $750. My experience with CapitalOne has been great so far, and even though the interest is high, I pay my balance in full each month so I pay zero interest anyways. It's better that way!

Pull your credit report.

CK of 650/699, denied because of insufficient credit history. I have had a car loan for 9 months, a credit card for 4, and a charge card with AMEX for 3. I'm a college student. Seriously, Discover? Do you really expect a college student to have that much credit history?
