I really like this response. Until last week, I did not have a credit card and was a "use money I physically have" person, but realized that that isn't good enough for rental units, car dealerships, and even prospective employers! jhrhodes is right, "You can recognize that it's unfair and play the game anyway. " I think companies looking at a credit report should be happy when they see a blank slate. That means the person hasn't messed up with anyone and isn't that what a company wants? I'm sorry you're having a hard time with this and I hope it all works out for the best!

In my opinion, 680 isn't even a bad score! What the heck?! I'm sorry they offered you something only to give you nothing AND take away 7 points.

I am giving this product 5 stars because I was approved with "bad credit," the annual fee of $29 isn't outrageous, and the deposit amount they requested from me wasn't outrageous either. I applied over the phone about 5 weeks ago with a score of 597. My score went down to 589 after applying. I was not approved over the phone and was told Capital One needed more time to process my application. Capital One sent me a couple letters before I received my approval letter. I was asked to pay a $49 deposit for a $200 credit line. I received my card last week, have not used it yet, and my credit score went up to 633. Some things to note, I received both a letter and an email requesting that I make my deposit AFTER I had made my deposit. I figured these were automatically generated and ignored them since I saw on my bank statement that Capital One had taken out money for my deposit. I suggest you do the same if you know you sent your deposit and just wait. Your card will come. Also, I don't know if applying for this card caused my credit score to go down as I submitted a rental application around the same time and I know the property owners checked my credit. Thank you, Capital One, for giving me a chance!
