accepted with deposited of 200 dollars , how does a secured card work since i have to deposit money? , do i buy stuff and it gets auto payed if it was like a debit/check card? "
henrylalfons at 9:22 pm Mar 11
Reply Cancel ReplyThe security deposit secures your credit line. As you spend, you will be billed for the spend and you must pay it off like a regular card. If you default, your security deposit will be used to pay the balance. If you have no balance and decide you don't want the card, your security deposit will be refunded. So in some ways it is like a debt card. The biggest difference is that a secured credit card will report to the credit bureaus which can help build your credit score if you are using it wisely. For the most part, debt cards do not report credit bureaus.

if i buy something can i use the 200 dollar deposit? or is that just for a safety net if i cant make a payment? "
henrylalfons at 9:48 pm Mar 11
Reply Cancel ReplyIt is the safety net. If you buy something, you will get a bill for it and have ~30 days to pay it off just like a credit card.

Reply Cancel ReplyHi, I was wondering how long it takes to actually get your card? I mailed my application almost 3 weeks ago and have not heard anything. I appreciate any insight you can give. Thanks! "

Reply Cancel ReplyI applied over the phone and it took about three weeks for the card to get to the house. You could try to call them or go to their web site and check the status of your account. "

Reply Cancel ReplyThanks, I called them today at 800-395-2120. I was told my application was not showing yet. the representative said that the applications are entered by hand and that it may take up to 30 days. she also mentioned that they had more applications than usual to enter right now. I was told information would be sent out once entered or I could feel free to call back to check my status. thanks for your help! :-) "

Reply Cancel Reply$300-$500 credit limit is insane given that you have to pay them for the privilege of borrowing money at loan shark rates. Your better off using a debit card and you wont get in trouble. "
evw1959 at 1:07 pm Mar 3
Reply Cancel ReplyYou don't have to pay any interest if you don't carry a balance. Debit cards are great and a responsible way to use money. The downside is that it does not help build your credit.

$300 Unsecured "
jabres at 12:45 pm Mar 3
Reply Cancel ReplyHi all, first off, thanks for the website and all you valuable commentators! Current scores: Exp624/TU611/Equi-unknown I don't want small credit lines so, no, not going for a regular bad-credit-unsecured card at this time for just a $300-$500 limit. I'm planning to open a "secured" account with Public Savings Bank because, I cannot with "HSBC/Orchard, First Premier and a few others." I was planning on opening the account with $200, then increasing the limit by at least $200 a month. Will that be noticed on credit report by companies, if they run a credit report on me let's say at the $800 credit line and see I started at 200 and increased it monthly? Also, does Public Savings really report "unsecured" as they claim? I saw "Ultra VX Visa Card up to $25,000. . Yes, I'm working on negotiating the collection accounts so, I know that will help some. :) Also, should you really not charge more than 10, 20 or 50% even if you pay in full at the end of the month? If I'm 90% hitting the card month after month and paying it in full, that's still not good? TYVM for any/all good/great input. I promise to update results. :) "

Reply Cancel ReplyJust received card in the mail today. Signed up for online bill pay. $300 limit. With a $74 charge for yearly fee already on it. Paid that. Now all i have to do is sit back and watch my ck score increase. I do believe yearly fee is a little steep along with almost 20% APR. But if its all i can get to start having great credit I will take it. "

Reply Cancel Replyquick question read a comment stating i can buy gas one day then pay it off next day , will that really raise my credit ? or isntead of buying 20 dollar gas should i just buy something like thats 100 and pay off monthly payments or right away .. kinda confused on best way to build credit , mines at 608 and i did the simulator stating if i pay off my current debt it'll go to 690 in which im planning to do in few weeks "
henrylalfons at 9:22 pm Feb 22
Reply Cancel ReplyAs long as you pay off your existing debt, your score should go up. It's best to pay off your balances monthly. You can use as little as $20 a month, pay it, and it should be fine. Creditors want to see your payment history

I built my credit up making small payments to 608, and im going to pay my debt all off in a few weeks to raise it to the simulated score of 690 , after that im going to open up this credit card which states it builds credit that i simulated with a limit of 500 to lower my score by 6 points to 684 but make payments to raise up even higher , does this sound good? "

You have to have patience with this offer. I submitted my application. I was immediately charged the $19 processing fee. Then when I actually did the full application it came back denied. I kept going to their website to check on the status and I read all the comments here. I found a phone number (which I don't have, but it's in other comments). I called it and it said that my status was denied. I called back like a week later and spoke with a person and she verified that I was actually accepted and my card should arrive in about 3 weeks. My credit karma score was in the mid 500's I believe. "
After about another week, the website status shows that I've been approved for $300 and I have a $74 (or $79?) processing fee (which the lady verified the week before). I think the important thing is to call back about a week or two after you've been denied. The exact SAME thing happened to my co-worker and she just had to call that number and verify some personal data and she got her card about 3 weeks later. Again...look for that number in older posts. Website is for status updates: https://www.hsbcapply.com/status/orchardbank "

Reply Cancel ReplyTechnical Support at 1 (877) 277-0948 6:00am to 5:00pm PT Monday-Friday. I dont use checks. So I had to call this number and speak to a customer service rep and apply over the phone using my debit card to pay for the $19. I have a ck score mid 500's as well and was approved for $300 limit. I believe that is the going rate for limited credit folks like myself. The rep also told me to call back in 6 to 9 months from the time I active the card and ask for a credit increase with on time payments. "
