I got one of these about 6 months ago, great while your in your intro APR, but you can do better once your past your 6 months. For reference I am 20, in college and have a credit score of 696, they gave me a 2000 limit and 16.9% APR after the 6 months is over. Needless to say the rewards are nice, but I went back to using my credit union's card with a sweet 10.9% APR after the intro period is over. I pay my cards off every month.

can I get a student credit card with a score of 640

@Lillian48
It's not always just a simple score. They could factor in other credit report attributes.
With that said, I would think that they have lower score requirements for for students.

Hi,
My credit score was 640. I did get a credit card with orchard Bank for 500.00. It will help me to get started and raise my credit score when I Pay out each month. But no one else would give me a card.

Be careful! I had a credit card through them, by the time they charged me all of their fees out of a $350 limit i only had $20 available. Then I tried paying off the balance, they didn't want to work with me and was he** to cancel the card. Just a warning!

bchalk - Why would you care about APR if you pay off your cards every month?
skbenja 1 year ago
@skbenja - Why wouldn't you care, if you ever needed to extend something over a month 17% is hell of a lot higher than 10%, sure as long as you do pay them its fine, but why bother with the hassle? The card at my credit union is: in the same online banking as my checking with 2 clicks for a payment, less APR, no extra fees for cash advances, no fees for using the convenience checks, and its visa... accepted everywhere. Why go out of my way to use the higher APR discover card? Well besides the orange card is pretty cool I guess :p.
Oh btw if you haven't already done so sign up for automatic monthly payments, even if you just pick minimum you will avoid any late fees!!!! I've heard horror stories about people that had discover "miss" their payments they mailed in (Google it).
To sign up go to:
http://www.discovercard.com/directpayplan
Its not listed on their main site (why I dont know, I guess they dont like their customers remembering to paying on time).

hey my credit score is 705 and im 18 years old. I been having this student secured card for about 4 months, and i want something that gives me cash back or reward points. what card do you guys suggest for me?
sololoko 1 year ago
Well, even if you pay off your cards each month, your credit score is important if you apply for any credit such as a car loan or mortgage, even insurance. IT sucks, but that's the way it is.
