watch out for unapproved charges. I had two when I first got the card. CapOne is slow to raise your credit limit. I ask them once a year they usually turn me down, they don't say why but I have one late payment with them. If your looking for a starter card, try HSBC Orchard Bank. They at least raise your credit limit if you stay on their good side.

sent a bunch of pre-approved offers. By the time I decided to accept, my credit was 735 and they denied the card. Question - why did they send me so much advertisement junk if they didn't need my (735 credit score!)business? Go my card with Chase!

Good question. Interestingly, pre-approval rates are only in the high 90% range and fall as time goes by. It could be that your credit fell outside of their approval ranges as time progressed. This is especially true now as more issuers are increase credit requirements.
