They usually don't say anything about you having a job or not, thats why they have an income line on the application and thats part of the reason you got denied, they will not include on your denial letter cuz of your income, they only tell you the information that was on your credit report at the time they pulled it. Creditworthiness comes first before income. It is risky to give someone a credit card who has not had one yet. Best bet is to look into a secured Visa if I was you so you dont keep dinging your score trying to apply for other unsecured cards. Best of luck to you "

Reply Cancel ReplyDenied with a 651 credit score. They ran it through Transunion. "
their reasons were: "
"length of time accounts have been established" "
"proportion of loan balances to loan amounts is too high" "
"lack of recent revolving account information" "
i have a $1,000 student loan that i have not started to pay off yet (you know..since i'm still in college?) and i have history on it for 7 months. "
Since most college students are younger (~20) i would have thought they'd be a little lenient..since its..you know, a student card..i'm honestly surprised they didn't say anything about me not having a job though. "

Reply Cancel ReplyI got this card two years ago on a 700 score, opening with a $500 limit. It has since increased twice, to $750, and then to $1,250. They will give you a better line with time. It's a student card, so as with all student cards they'll be stingy to start. "
Shadowdemon: You have no job, no credit history outside of 7 mos of student loans, and a 651 score. Even before they started tightening restrictions you would've been declined. Nowadays, unless you've got $1,500 gross monthly income, if you're under 21 you will not get credit without a cosigner. Period. "
