I've had a discover card for almost 11 years, use it rarely, and always pay it off in full. my fixed rate was always 7.9%, on a card with a 9K limit. My credit score is excellent. Two months ago, I purchased a vacation on my card (less then 20% of the credit limit), and did not pay it off in full. I came home yesterday to find a letter from Discover that my card will no longer be a fixed rate, that it instead will have a variable rate, currently 17.99%! I know all the cards seem to be going to variable rates, but almost 18%?! They are out of their minds! If this is how they treat their customers with excellent credit and a long relationship with them, I can't imagine what stunts they will pull on new clients. As this card never seems to be accepted in the places you want to use it, my recommendation would be to stay far, far away!

Stick with your local credit union cards..almost instant approval even with a less than perfect history and low apr and no fees. These mega banks and credit card companies are total rip-offs period. As a CU member, you are valued.

With a credit score of only 660 I decided to wait to apply. I have to say this though, with creditkarma, I at least know where I stand and know what needs work!

Declined me and then tried to offer me a card with an annual fee of $59 :P... I don't have the greatest credit score, but I have a history of on-time payments and really just one incident in my past that caused my credit to look bad that was about 4 years ago.

Check this out I applied for Discover Card got it, but here is the winner. I am smart on what I spend and charge. So if I have cash I use it vs credit card. So, I didnt use the card for 4 months and without notice they closed it. My score went down cause I lost the limit part and my debt rasio took a hit. They close my account cause I didnt use it.

This is happening much more frequently in this environment. We suggest buying a tank of gas every couple of months to keep your credit lines active.

With a credit score of 720. I have a Discover with a 20,000 credit limit and 9.9% rate. I feel with these hard economic times the approval rate is very difficult to attain. I feel TIMING plays a big part and recent activities on your credit is another. Would i recommend DISCOVER most certainly. If you dont abuse your credit being approved is not an issue.
